Artist's Comments

Despair, cruelty, lying, subtle dishonesty. Yet another unpleasant card from the high end of the Swords.

This is really vividly disturbing. The disconnect between the sympathetic hug and the knife to the back is absolutely stark.

I must be doing something right, then. Thanks!

All those poses, wow. And the 9 of swords means only that?

I only ask that 'cause if it's true, I'm impressed you compressed it down into ONE IMAGE. :O

Well, blades were never one to show sympathy. The card feels depressing, in a way.

It means a few more things, mostly along the same lines. Exactly what it means depends on who you believe; one of the books I'm using for reference lists meanings taken from fourteen different Tarot analysis/creators that range from this to "feeling sorry for yourself" or "a smooth, well-integrated personal belief system".

But then again the people who ascribe those nicey-wicey meanings are also seen insisting that the Death card is never about death coming into your life; it's always about a Positive Opportunity For Change!!!. Everyone else I'm referring to tends to see the 9S as a pretty nasty card.

I ended up finishing this one over the week I went back to New Orleans to watch my grandmother die. Even when it's someone who did their damndest to be unlikable it's still pretty depressing.
