Artist's Comments

A goodbye to a character I've had and worn for a long time. Thanks for everything you showed me about myself, Peganthyrus.

Hope you don't mind the lurkiness, but I'd seen the LJ comic on Peganthyrus and Twin. I wasn't being sneaky, just shy. Not sure how to comment on content in a non-presumptuey-patronising way, so...

It's really nice seeing this softer, painterly style. Very fitting. The chalky marks make me think of a pavement artist working in Paris or Dublin...which seems kind of fitting for the noirish, femme fatality (?) of her character.

Mruh. I dig her scrawnyness. She is pretty and dangerous - eh, you're gonna need a new DA avatar now?

peggy is slick and pretty, i see no reason why you shouldn't keep her around as just a character. Slinky noir dragongirl. I don't know - I've never understood the concept of avatar things... all of my characters are minute representations of me; none could ever be ME. I like the painterly look.. something new, and the background is excellent.

on the scale of worlds, to say nothing of stars and galaxies, humans are inconsequential. a thin film of life, on an obscure and solitary lump of rock and metal.

Sorry for being out of the loop, but why goodbye?

Someone on the Yerf forum asked pretty much the same thing. So I will cut-and-paste.

The short answer: She was a "personal furry", and I'm a very different person from when I created her.

The long answer: Well, she kinda got rid of herself [link] two months ago. It's got something to do with my gender transition (I'm an MtF) and mostly leaving the MUCK she existed on due to some other things that changed because of that. And something to do with not wanting to wear a feminine mask that'd become confounded with the self-hate of being in the closet about my gender.

I've seen a few other examples of people doing this as they grow and change, though not always for such dramatic reasons or in such dramatic ways. But I'm a drama queen sometimes.

Lurking's fine. And that Peganthyrus/Twin fragment threw a lot of people for a loop, including me. (oh, and go lurk at [link] - second down. and why not?)

I was aiming for a Bill Sienkiewicz feel (US comics artist who actually does distinctive, graphically cool things) with all the pastel stuff but I ended up in my own variant. Experimentation is good. Mmm, drawn on the pavement in a romantic destination of a city... yes, it fits.

When you play a character on Furrymuck for several years in a row, she may come to be more than just a few mixed-up facets of you - Peganthyrus was definitely one of those characters. Look at my reply below to *koolbeans19 for a hint of the reasons why...

Experimentation is good. I think I'm taking a break from the crisp Illustrator feel I'm known for for a while.

Maybe. The one I use now is kinda a hybrid of her and me-in-reality. I might just re-crop one of the many icons I currently use on LJ...
