About the Artist

Tue Jan 20, 2009, 10:33 AM
I'm a pseudo-housewife and an occasional freelance illustrator.

I'm fascinated by flat expanses of color and minimal detail. Adobe Illustrator was love at first sight for me.

Most of my art is done in Illustrator from original sketches on paper; on the rare occasions I use photo reference, it's only for inspiration.

This is not my journal; go read my
LiveJournal
if you want to hear about my daily life and see lots of unfinished doodles.

Buy some prints and keep me happy to do this stuff. If there's a piece you'd like a print of, comment on it and let me know! I don't process my stuff for printing here unless someone asks.

Because the forums here so often have people asking about "finding their style":

Style is like love. It sneaks up on you when you're not looking.

It's the bits you're naturally good at. It's the cheats and abstractions of reality you've internalized, whether you figured them out yourself or stole them from another artist. It's the things you just can't get a handle on, no matter how hard you try, and the ways you've evolved to make this look intentional.

You can appropriate someone else's style, but your style is what you get when you pick apart the styles of all your influences and stick them in a blender along with observation of reality, analysis, and practice...

my first art show

Sat Jul 26, 2008, 6:03 PM

August 29 - September 19, 2008
Opening reception: Friday, August 29, 6-8pm

Space 242, 242 E. Berkeley St, 2nd floor, Boston, MA

Full details at the gallery's site. If you're around Boston, come see the fruits of the past year of my life! Maybe even buy some of the art. Or at least have some of the free booze, if you're old enough!

You can get a preview of what'll be at the show by flipping through my gallery here, or by looking at the page for the Tarot deck.

(Yes, if you're watching me you already saw this - I decided to post this up on the journal so passers-by will see it, too.)

for your information

The new version of DA broke the ability for people using Safari to reply to comments.

This site doesn't loom large enough in my world to switch me to Firefox's unMacyness. So I won't be talking back to anyone here until this gets fixed. o.O

On the other hand, full images are actually framed in white now instead of pea-green. You win some, you lose some.

If you wanna ask questions and get answers before then, try email/im/notes/lj.

(I decided I was just being paranoid about the submission agreement. 3(e) still bugs the hell out of me in its broadness and its persistence, though.)
